TEMPERATURE Sensor Issue
Hi Serverscheck,
We have bought temperature sensor from you 4 days back.We are trying to make it work.
But we are uanble to , even though we followed your documents with extream care.
We are redircting some COM port like COM port 3 or 2 ..which seem to be open when we checked with Hyperterminal software.Device installer searched for the device and we assigned an IP also the device. When we create a PING rule its working . But when we are trying to make a rule for Temperature sensor, its not at all working but errors out as "Unable to Open COM port 3" like that..Sometimes we see "Timeoout has occured as last errors. At command prompt(C:/Servers.../agents/) also we checked with your command for more debug information, but its giving same "Unable to open COM port3).But the Hyperterminal connects to it when we check for the port status. We really do not know how to get rid of the issue. I request to take this on high priority and help us to solve the issue. We tried all other posts on this forum also.If this Trial edition works for us fine, then we will at once go for Licensed version..
Thanks
Suri

Lantronix redirector settings are just as per your doc but the port we use COM2.This is free when we disconnected and tried with HyperTerminal. We dont know why this is not working. Why this much complexiety for just setting up a sensor.Reply please.
Thanks
Thanks
We have hundreds of users and those having problems always seem to have deleted for some reason the settings of the UDS-10 we set prior to shipping the sensor.
Can you please give me your order date and company name it was ordered under so that I can track back what you purchased. I did not find any order on May 8th like you stated for such a configuration.
Can you also please use the port settings that we put in our documentation rather than using your own.
Based on that information we can then try other options.
What are the possible ways that your settings may be deleted..?

We are using your own settings. Please cooperate further in getting to correct settings if you find anything wrong with sensor device and Lantronix Redirector.
Thanks
Thanks in advance.
So you are using a ST6105J with a UDS-10.
A set of basic questions. Please answer them all.
1/ UDS-10 and ST6105J are connected with a C2009 cable?
2/ UDS-10 can be pinged?
3/ You use the port as per manual (instead of COM2)?
4/ What is the RAW Mode and Connection Timeout on the Redirector software?
5/ What is the output when you perform following command via the command prompt in the agents subdirectory:
sensorsoft_check -L log.txt -C TCP 10.0.0.1:3001
Make sure to replace 10.0.0.1 with your IP
Yes.We are using a ST6105J with a UDS-10.
Answers:
1/ UDS-10 and ST6105J are connected with a C2009 cable?
A)We used the given 20ft cable.
2/ UDS-10 can be pinged?
A)Yes. I can ping and device installer found that device with specific address mentioned on it.
3/ You use the port as per manual (instead of COM2)?
A) We used the COM 10 first. Not worked ,then COM3 etc also. Not worked. Finally trying with COM2 is also open.
4/ What is the RAW Mode and Connection Timeout on the Redirector software?
A)Both are Selected in port settings option.
5/ What is the output when you perform following command via the command prompt in the agents subdirectory:
sensorsoft_check -L log.txt -C TCP <Our IP> :3001
A)Output: Timeout has occurred .
We are able to ping and PING rule works fine also.
Thanks
The only thing I can think of is that either the cable or the sensor is defunct:
1/ Pinging to UDS-10 works
2/ Sensor is not powered by adapter but by UDS-10 via serial cable
3/ Serial cable is well connected between sensor (RJ-45) and UDS-10 (DB-25)
I would recommend that you return us all products for a replacement. Please contact sales for this: sales[at]serverscheck.com
So as per your points "Some of the parts may under defun".Ok.
What should we say to Sales about the reason for the replacement. Can you direct us on this.
Thanks
All other items (cable and UDS-10) tested OK.
The sensor has been replaced and all items are being returned today.
Thank you.We received the the device.
We tested it from my laptop. It worked very fine.
And we intended to install all software, device installer, redirector etc on another dedicated machine. We did it and when we select whatever the port :say COM2 or COM10 etc, It is erroring out with Unable to open COM port. Can you suggest us what to do exactly to make this software work on this dedicated machine also.
We tried this after shutting down all services on my laptop. If we try there again,it works fine.Problem is we want it to be on a dedicated desktop.
Thanks a bunch for your continuous support.
Does it have access to the UDS-10? Does it have the .NET framework installed?
The new machine we are trying is a desktop machine and it has no sysadmin privileges.I cannot even see "services".
I installed already .net on it.Is .net start automatically at reboots once it is installed?I am not sure of this.
I need to check this one.
Also from your side is there any OS side minimum configuration/specification(s) mentioned to make your software run as expected. Please suggest how can know the source of issue. As of now we are still running it on laptop. Thanks
XP Home is not an option.
If we install the software on a machine first and after it is working, what should we do to install the same software on a 2nd machine and continue with the later?
Do we need to reboot the device and if so how..
I checked all things on a newer machine. But its giving everytime the COM port error.
Best Regards
The second one we are trying is 6.3.0.
Is it making any difference?
Please clarify.
I can't remotely tell what the differences are and what might be wrong on that configuration.
I don't understand why you are trying a different version on the same machine.
If machine A works fine with version 6.3.4 and machine B does not work fine, then you need to find out what is wrong on machine B and not change machine A (it works there)
Ok Thanks for the reply.
On the new machine some COM ports are being used by a Telephone monitoring software. Is it any way the cause as you think.
Thanks
You will need to check that with the maker of the software.
