Cannot get email alert

I set the email alert and test .But i didn't get any email.I get this error.The error is





Error: Can't call method "mail" on an undefined value



Any information about this error?

    Not knowing which release you are using. I assume it is 8.01



    Make sure the mail server value is set and saved and then only test it
