ServersCheck Hardware Monitoring
Hello All
I have been using ServersCheck for a while and now I have a few questions about hardware monitoring.
1) If I have to monitor Harddisk in a server, like Harddisk failure, bad sector found, how can I set up ServersCheck to monitor this?
What I know now is that ServersCheck has Window health option to monitor available resource of CPU, memory and DriveSpace, but DriveSpace cannot tell if the Harddisk is failed or get bad sector.
2) Same with previous question, if I want to monitor memory function as well how can I set it up? (not available memory)
3) How can I monitor router and switch using ServersCheck?
4) What is the advantage of SNMP trap receiver? If I need real-time monitoring do I need to have it?
5) According to question1 & 2, do you think I can use Event Log monitoring filtered by keyword like “Harddisk failure” or “Memory failure” to catch the error from Harddisk and memory?
6) If I use DriveSpace to monitor my USB drive, when I remove it from the computer it did not give me down alarm or anything.

To know if your vendor does provide this, you will need to check with their support.
2) See 1
3) Routers and switches are typically monitored through SNMP. Managed switches typically support it, non-managed don't. The type of info that can be monitored is vendor specific.
4) Trap receiving is a protocol used by devices to send out alerts depending on what is defined in the device. A SNMP Trap Receiver enabled monitor tool such as ServersCheck can then generate alerts on it.
5) Depends on vendor
6) ServersCheck only monitors presents disks. Disks are not there have been removed and are not monitored.
I recommend that you spend some time learning more about SNMP through a local course available from training facilities in your location. This will help in better understanding what can be monitored and not regardless of the monitoring suite used.
