7.15.8 cannot add new device

gmillerarmtgmillerarmt
performed a manual upgrade to 7.15.8 from 7.15.5 and can not add a ned device to monitor. Using the "Monitor another Device" button on the dashboard doesn't add a new device when the wizard completes. Using the "Copy Device moniros " button will add a new device.

We have released 7.15.9 which fixes the reported issued
  • gmillerarmtgmillerarmt
performed manual update to 7.15.9 and now cannot connect to the website. The webserver service starts but nothing is listening on port 1272.
  • AdministratorAdministrator
Stop the monitoring service and run the s-server.exe from the command prompt. What's the output?
  • gmillerarmtgmillerarmt
ordinal 3288 could not be located in the dynamic link library libeay32.dll.

If i roll back to 7.15.8 everything works fine except the adding of a monitor.
  • AdministratorAdministrator
Please copy the exact output of the s-server.exe

Are you using it in ssl mode?
  • gmillerarmtgmillerarmt
    not that i know of...
  • AdministratorAdministrator
Ok we have forwarded it to our development team for further investigation as we can't replicate it. In the mean time, can you try installing 7.15.9 on a different system and see if it works there?
  • gmillerarmtgmillerarmt
i have had this same issue before on 1/16/2008 please look to forum topic "7.8.8 alerting not working".
  • AdministratorAdministrator
Please try installing it on a different system. There must have been an old dll conflicting with a new one. I did an install on a blank Windows 2003 and XP system and both installed and ran fine.
  • gmillerarmtgmillerarmt
currently i don't have that option and how will that help me out?
  • AdministratorAdministrator
to determine if the software is at fault or the system it is installed / ie version conflict. You don't have any system where you can install the trial version on?

If not, then I recommend that you make sure that all exe's, dll's are deleted and you temporary directories are empties after uninstalling and then try to install again.
  • gmillerarmtgmillerarmt
i have installed 7.15.9 on my desktop and the server gui works. now what?
  • AdministratorAdministrator
see above: "If not, then I recommend that you make sure that all exe's, dll's are deleted and you temporary directories are empties after uninstalling and then try to install again."
  • gmillerarmtgmillerarmt
uninstalled, deleted everything except database and conf directory made sure all exe/dlls were gone in any serverscheck directories, rebooted twice, deleted everything in temp directories. Installed 7.15.9 into a DIFFERENT directory on the server and web gui still doesn't work. failed with same error:

    C:Program FilesServersCheck_Monitoring>s-server.exe

    Can't load 'auto/Net/SSLeay/SSLeay.dll' for module Net::SSLeay: load_file:The sp

ecified module could not be found at /<C:Program FilesServersCheck_Monitoring

    s-server.exe>DynaLoader.pm line 217.

    BEGIN failed--compilation aborted at /<C:Program FilesServersCheck_Monitoring

    s-server.exe>IO/Socket/SSL.pm line 18.

    BEGIN failed--compilation aborted at s-server.pl line 12.

if i replace the current directories in the broken installation with 7.15.8 directories the web gui starts.
  • AdministratorAdministrator
You can't have 2 different versions installed on the same system. There is more than probably a version conflict on your system with old dll's still being around. No one else having done the upgrade reported the issue you did report; not here or in the helpdesk. The fact that it ran smoothly on the other system demonstrates that the issue is your current configuration.

First thing I would try is to copy the 7.15.8 folder to another system and then delete it on the current server. Try then to see if it works. Make sure there are no pdk's folders in any of your windows temporary folders

If nothing helps, then a safe thing to do would be a clean OS install after following the steps in the knowledge base in respect to moving a configuration to a different server. That info should be backed up prior to doing the clean OS install. Of course if you have installed it on a different disk than your OS, then you might be OK too.

You can also stick with 7.15.8 if you prefer.
  • gmillerarmtgmillerarmt
I will roll back to 7.15.5 as this release seems to have the features, that I utilize, that work.
  • AdministratorAdministrator
7.15.9 requires a different perl58.dll to operate. We are confident that the problem you reported is that it finds somewhere the incorrect - old - perl58.dll As a result it throws the errors you mention. The issue with the s-alerts.exe a while ago was exactly the same where the problem was that the component was not using the latest perl58.dll (and looking for an old one). Now it is looking for the new one but finds the old one.

That is why the install on your other system did work fine as there were no traces of the old perl58.dll

There have been a substantial amounts of downloads so far and no one has reported the same issue.

  • gmillerarmtgmillerarmt
a search of the entire system only shows perl58.dll in the serverscheck_monitoring directory so i don't see how its finding an old perl58.dll. Also listdlls.exe only shows perl58.dll loaded by processes associated w/ serverscheck.

  • gmillerarmtgmillerarmt
    nothing huh...you guys give up?
  • AdministratorAdministrator
It's not a question of giving up. We told you what the options were.

You can try to download the individual s-server.exe from the update site:

    http://upgrade.serverscheck.net/monitoring_software/s-server.exe

It run fines on all other systems. Since your initial posting there have been hundreds of installations and only one reported same issue but for different component (graphing one) and it has been resolved by doing a clean install.
  • gmillerarmtgmillerarmt
lucky for them. Its unfortunate that i am having so much difficullty in moving to the 7.15.9 release, i wished it worked too.

here is the error i receive when using the downloaded s-server.exe

Can you try following trick? Download the following DLL and install it in your main ServersCheck directory:

    http://upgrade.serverscheck.net/monitoring_software/SSLeay.dll

We had another issue earlier today while bringing 7.15.10 and putting another DLL in the main ServersCheck directory did the trick on the platform where we had the issue.
  • gmillerarmtgmillerarmt
nope same issue w/ 7.15.9 after replacing the ssleay.dll.

    D:Program FilesServersCheck_Monitoring>s-server.exe

    Can't load 'auto/Net/SSLeay/SSLeay.dll' for module Net::SSLeay: load_file:The sp

  • AdministratorAdministrator
Do you have SSLeay.dll or ssleay.dll in your main ServersCheck folder? If lowercase, then try putting it in the same case as the error message.
  • gmillerarmtgmillerarmt
Checked and the case of the file name is identical to what is specified in the error.
  • AdministratorAdministrator
I am sorry but we have tried everything to simulate it and no one has reported that issue. I can only recommend to do a clean Windows install (after backing up your data and configuration) and to reinstall again.
